When watching an obvious comedian interview people about their political opinions it became pretty obvious that left leaning people tended to be more defensive. These people know deep down that they are wrong and are afraid of being exposed, hence it's harder for them to enjoy a discussion even when it's obvious that they are meant to.

This raises another question. Why hold an opinion you don't believe in. Well obviously the truth demands something from them that they aren't willing or able to give. I think this thing is hard work. It can't be intelligence, since if that was what they lacked they would be unaware that they are wrong so they won't be defensive. And in fact I've observed a correlation that supports that. So basically if a liberal can take a joke it means they are dumb but genuine and kind hearted. These are good people. If they can't take a joke it means they are fairly smart but lazy. These are not good people. Their intelligence might make them useful1, many tech workers are left leaning, but they aren't willing to put in the work required to make that intelligence a boon to others. And they don't want you to know this. So they come up with a set of theories based on empathy so that they can still feel good about themselves even though they could help others so much more than they do.

The left is the party of bleeding hearts 2. The ones who are comfortable in it are friends. The ones who aren't are losers in the deepest sense3. They should be told to sack up and make the most of their potential. These people are hiding from their potential because it demands that they work hard.

I've observed that it's the intelligent that hate Elon the most. He's proof of how much good a hard working and intelligent person can do. He's proof that they are wasting their potential so they come up with theories that explain his success in such a way that makes them look noble by not attempting to replicate it.

"If your not a liberal at 20 you have no heart, if you aren't a conservative by 30 you have no brain" - Someone

People with high IQ tend to lean liberal because they tend to look for the reasons why things are the way they are. And every time they fail to find an answer they will go with their heart and that's going to be a liberal view. Our current time period is unusual in that there are pockets where liberalism dominates such as in universities and in big coastal cities. So when the high IQ people ask why not do things the kind way, it's relatively easy to answer that question. I suspect if the study that found high IQ people lean left was redone it would find that now the opposite is true.
